How to Get Rid of Acne Scars

by admin

Whenever your body suffers an injury it produces antibodies that rush out of the blood to protect itself. The exact same process applies to acne infections. When you suffer an acne flare up your body provides white blood cells and other such molecules to fight off the infection and repair the damaged area. Once the acne infection has been defeated you’re left with a rough scar where once there was smooth skin. Do not worry yourself too much over this.  Read below for how to get rid of acne scars and scarring.

Variations of Acne Scars
All men are not born equal, some people have a tendency to scar more visibly than others while others are blessed with fast healing scar free skin. There are two forms of acne scars, those that are caused by the loss of tissue and those that are caused by the formation of additional tissue.

Keloids – On occasion, acne scars form in a reverse manner. Keloids are formed when the skin loses collagen, doing so triggers fibroblast which produces extra collagen to counteract the deficiency. Keloids are most common on male torsos. Another form of additional tissue formation scaring is called hypertrophic scarring. Hypertrophy is overgrowth.

Depressed Scars – Depressed acne scarring comes in several different types. Ice-Pick scars, soft scars, depressed fibrotic and macular. As cysts fill with pus, oil, necrotic skin cells and bacteria they expand and rupture, attacking the healthy dermis around. This is where your body utilises white blood cells to repair. The skin immediately above a ruptured cyst becomes loose and collapses, leaving a round shaped or ice pick acne scar. These are more commonly found on the face.

Scar Treatments – There are many options available to the professional dermatologist for treating and relieving the scars caused by acne. Before you decide on the best route of action you’re best advised to thoroughly discuss the options available with your doctor. Factors to consider are your feelings toward the scars, the cost of the treatments and the work based implications. The location and severity of the scarring can have a resounding effect on the available options.

The common methods of treatment for acne are laser treatments, collagen based treatment, dermabrasion, skin surgery, micro-dermabrasion and skin grafting. Keloids on the other hand can be left without treatment if it’s believed further tampering will produce additional keloids. Keloids may, in certain circumstances be injected and treated with mild steroids.
